Black iPhone 4 Thicker Than The White iPhone 4  - The white iPhone 4 officially went on sale today and we had a lovely hands-on time with it this morning. We even went as far as snapping a shot of it next to a Samsung Galaxy S II. The new color on the iPhone 4 certainly makes it look bright and fresh, but more and more folks are noticing that the white color also makes the iPhone look fat.

Ryan Cash of Marketcircle felt the same way when he compared his colleague’s new 16GB iPhone 4 in white with his 32GB black version, and offered up several close up comparison photos.

Earlier today, a MacRumors reader notified us that the white iPhone 4 is ever so slightly thicker than the black iPhone 4. It's a small difference, but enough that the white iPhone 4 wouldn't fit in his Incase slider case:

The future of the iPad 2, iPhone 5, and Apple TV, and why Apple is shifting its mobile line to Qualcomm chipsets - We've been hearing a ton of rumors about what direction Apple's next set of products will take and when they'll be available -- but now we've got some concrete information from reliable sources which should make the path a little clearer. And that includes info on the next iPad, the iPhone 5, the second iteration of the new Apple TV, and a big change coming for all of the company's mobile products. Want to know the scoop? Right now, everyone is obviously buzzing about the Verizon iPhone 4. What people aren't talking about (yet) is the fact the device will be using a Qualcomm chipset for its CDMA radio (with no GSM capabilities) as opposed to the Infineon versions seen in the GSM iPhone 4. This isn't much of a surprise by itself, but it paves the way for a major shift from Apple. But first, a little bit of a timeline.

Just before the Verizon iPhone 4 launch, we'd heard from multiple sources -- sources like the ones which gave us all that extremely accurate Apple TV info last time around -- that the iPad 2 isn't nearly as close to launch as some have speculated. Apparently, those case and hardware mockups we've seen are rather early versions, which means we're still months out from a proper introduction. It seems likely that the device will land around April (perfectly timed with the 12-month product cycle Apple enjoys). And what about that device? From what we've been told, the thinner, sleeker tablet will sport a new screen technology that is akin to (though not the same as) the iPhone 4's Retina Display and will be "super high resolution" (unlike reports to the contrary). The device will remain at 10 inches but will now feature both front and rear cameras (not a huge surprise), and... there's an SD slot. That's right -- our sources say with near certainty that the device will have a dedicated SD slot built in (with no traditional USB slot). In fact, see that weird notch in the photo below? That's where the SD part will be located. What's most interesting, however, is what's happening under the hood.

Gingerbread ROMs start cooking for Galaxy S, EVO 4G, et al; keyboard ported for rooted Androids - You can have your (pretty legitimate) doubts about when your phone maker will finally get around to delivering an Android 2.3 update (March if you're with HTC, June if Samsung, 2017 if you're unfortunate enough to own a Sony Ericsson), but the smartphone dev community doesn't work that slow. The guys who build custom ROMs just for the sheer pride of it have already begun work on delivering Gingerbread to owners of the Samsung Galaxy S and HTC EVO 4G and Wildfire. It's all in the very nascent stages and warnings abound that you should only install these ROMs if you intend to contribute to the development process, but it does give us hope for a consumable new OS in the not so distant future. One thing that does look ready to be gobbled up, however, is Gingerbread's new software keyboard -- you'll find the download link and installation instructions at the Droid-Life link below, just remember to bring your rooted Android phone along.

As a freelance writer, I receive most of the payments for my services online, but every once in a while, I get a check in the mail and have to go to the bank to deposit it.
It would appear that USAA bank is removing any reason for me to go to the bank with an iPhone app that allows me to deposit my checks virtually. All I need to do is take a picture of the front of my check with the iPhone, then turn the check over and snap the back of it. Once I hit e-send, the money is in the bank.
Of course, I don’t have an iPhone, and that is the case for many others. Another limitation on this new paperless service is it is currently only available for active-duty military personnel. I guess that just makes sense, doesn’t it? How can someone stationed in Iraq make a run to the bank?

Apple has done it again, bringing the world to a stop with their latest release which is the iPad. At the end of the post, this could very well be the iPhat – short for iPod touch Phat, since it is more or less a much larger version of the iPod touch albeit with a far superior processor as well as better hardware specifications. First of all, what does the iPad offer? This device is meant to sit right in between the laptop as well as smartphone categories, boasting Apple’s very own 1GHz Apple A4 processor to get you up and running. There is also a huge virtual QWERTY keyboard that appears on the screen for you to type all your emails, but it remains to be seen whether the layman can get used to such a setup assuming he/she has already gotten used to the regular QWERTY keyboard after all this while. Belkin is betting that Apple’s latest iPad device will sell millions upon millions, but we don’t think it will ever hit the 250 million mark that the iPod family has arrived at over the years, unless the iPad comes down in price drastically. As with any other Apple device, it comes with a delectable design, although some of us are already grumbling about the extra fat bezel of the iPad which was incorporated so that you won’t accidentally touch the screen when moving it around unlocked. Most importantly, we ought to keep the screen in a pristine condition, as reading on a scratched and smudged display isn’t exactly the preferred option. 6 Sony A-series Walkman We spotted this 7.2mm thin Walkman on the web and reports say it’s already on sale in Japan. It’s the new descendent of the perennial favourite and features a 2.8-inch OLED screen and an FM radio. The iPod Nano has that too, plus a video recorder and pedometer, but the A-Series has TV-out and noise canceling.
