Super Bowl XLV out the big game!

Share |
Super Bowl XLV out the big game! - It's been confirmed, Super Bowl XLV will not be the first one with a full HD 3D broadcast (no gimmicky 3D commercials this year either, you can put the paper glasses away) despite featuring a halftime show by James Cameron's BFFs, the Black Eyed Peas. Still, considering what happened the last time they tried 3D at the House That Jerry Jones Built it's probably for the best. Still, just because you don't have one of Cowboys Stadium's record breaking HD screens you should still enjoy the game in style. In 2011 that means going beyond just the screen, the sounds and the seats -- we'll tell you how after the break.

While 2011's best HDTVs have yet to make their debut you still have your pick of the finest technology 2010 had to offer. The Pioneer Elite line will return from hiatus later this year, at least in name, but for image quality the current top dog is Panasonic's VT25 line of plasmas. The bad news? High demand has drained most retailers of their supply in many sizes, but the 54-inch TC-P54VT25 seems to be widely available and currently can be had from Amazon for $2,160. Like most of the high end sets these days it also does 3D so our roundup of those sets isn't a bad place to start looking either. Totally committed to not dropping a single dime on anything 3D? Sony's edge LED lit KDL55EX710 can satisfy for the environmentally-conscious buyer and will be found practically anywhere this week for around $1,500, but what if your price range is a little lower? In previous years we've singled out Panasonic's lower end plasmas (S2, G2) but the budget conscious might do well to check out Samsung's PN50C550 which can be had for less than a grand and still offers impressive image quality at a large size.

Kinect is Not Collecting Dust

Share |
Kinect is Not Collecting Dust - A few days ago a fellow SlashGear columnist Don Reisinger elaborated on how his Kinect was collecting dust. If I put myself in Don’s shoes I can relate to his article and his questioning of whether or not the Kinect can meet the needs of hard core gamers and a hard core gaming experience. I, however, in coming at it from a different angle, have a completely different experience with my Kinect.

Before I go much further, you need to know that for all intents and purposes I am a hard core gamer. I have grown up spending not an insignificant amount of time being entertained by video games. My father, being a long time analyst in the industry, worked on an early project with Nintendo and their first console. He brought one home during the project and I was hooked.

I’ve owned every major fixed and mobile gaming console since, and I can say video games are my guilty pleasure. That being said, after getting married my video game addiction became harder to maintain. To quote Brodie from Mallrats “Hell hath no fury like a woman’s scorn for SEGA.” How true this quote is, as video games – or more specifically me playing video games – instantly changes her generally cheery disposition.

Sony Ericsson names Xperia Arc CPU, dubs Android 2.4 appearance a 'misconfiguration'

Share |
Sony Ericsson names Xperia Arc CPU, dubs Android 2.4 appearance a 'misconfiguration' - The Xperia Arc is one pretty slice of Gingerbread, don't you think? We certainly did when we got the chance to handle one for ourselves at CES, but today we're less concerned with its exterior and more interested in what lies beneath. The 1GHz processor we knew about already has been specified as a Qualcomm MSM8255 and will be joined in the good fight against sluggish performance by an Adreno 205 graphics chip. On the software front, that random sighting of an Arc with Android 2.4 has been put down as a simple "misconfiguration" by Sony Ericsson, exploding a million conspiracy theories around the web. One encouraging note here is that SE (kinda) acknowledges its inglorious record with Android updates and promises recent changes have put it in "a good position to make sure that Xperia Arc will get later versions in a timely manner." We'll believe it when you make it, Sony.

Gingerbread Coming in Early 2011

Share |
Gingerbread Coming in Early 2011: Take a peek at this gigantic phone. It’s got a 4.5″ (or 4.3″?) WVGA sAMOLED2 screen and it’s going to run Android Gingerbread (which, at this point, I think we’ve all agreed is Android 2.3.) Engadget’s been tipped the following image containing what appears to perhaps be legit info on a new phone coming in at the beginning of next year from Samsung, right around February.

Gingerbread Coming in Early 2011: The screen, as I said up there with a question mark, is said in different parts of the leak image to either be 4.5″ or 4.3″ – either way, it’s tagged as sAMOLED2, which could mean SUPER AMOLED2 – this may imply that Sammy will be / has made some advanced moves over the screens that have appeared on Galaxy S models throughout 2010. It’s described as an “ultra sleek design” and really, look at that image, it doesn’t appear that it could get any sleeker. Additionally, looks like it will have a magically delicious 8 Megapixel camera, 16GB onboard storage, 1080p video capture, 14.4Mbps HSPA, a 1.2GHz core of some kind or another, and Bluetooth 3.0. Looks fabulous.

Samsung Luxury GT-S9402

Samsung officially launches Luxury GT-S9402 DuoS phone

Despite the global economic crisis, it seems that Samsung sees some potential in the luxury phone segment of the market as they’ve decided to push through with their S9402 mobile phone. It’s now called the Ego GT-S9402 and looks a lot more sophisticated than the leaked shots we showed you guys in the past.

We’ve also now learned that it’s made of a liquidmetal composite which is said to be a lot better than titanium in almost every aspect and justify the additional zeros in its price tag. Aside from the fancy new material, most of the specs we mentioned in the past are still intact. It’s got the AMOLED display, 5-megapixel camera with autofocus, image stabilization, smile detection and LED flash, FM radio, tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, Bluetooth, 1GB internal memory, microSD card slot that supports up to 8GB additional storage, and the thing that’s most unique about it, active dual-SIM functionality.
It’s expected to retail for 1200 EUR (roughly $1500) but where it can be purchased is yet to be known. Anyway, with a lot of great bargains in the market today, we’re not at all that excited with this uber-expensive phone from Samsung, but hey, if you’ve got the cash, then the S9402 might just be the phone for you.

samsung Ultra Smart F700

samsung takes aim at iphone,

Seems like every few days another mobile phone vendor tries to steal some thunder from Apple’s much anticipated iPhone . Samsung has now thrown their hat into the ring by throwing down with their own widescreen, touch-sensitive media phone.
The Samsung Ultra Smart F700 features a sleek, modern design that’s a little more rugged looking than Apple’s iPhone. For starters, the F700 has a large, 2.78-inch touchscreen display, running at 240×400 resolution. In addition, it’s got a full QWERTY slide-out keyboard lets you quickly type e-mails and text messages. It’s a full triband GSM phone, with 3G support for EDGE, GPRS,UMTS and HSDPA high-speed wireless service, as well as Bluetooth.

The phone features robust multimedia playback capabilities for MP3 and MP4 files as well as a variety of other formats. The F700 also has a solid 5-megapixel digital camera, with a smaller secondary camera for teleconferencing. A full HTML web browser is also included. While the F700 doesn’t feature some of the fancier features of the iPhone such as the accelerometer or multi-touch display, nor does it offer WiFi access, it does one-up the iPhone with its expandable memory, 3G support and slide-out keyboard.

Samsung SGH-F330

Samsung SGH-F330 shiny and slider Phone.

Samsung has already launched a whole heap of mobile phones this year, and while most of the handsets it had on display at IFA in Berlin today saw light of day way back at 3GSM in March, one phone did catch our eye.
Say hello to the SGH-F330 music phone, a slider with cool white styling and a dedicated music-key cluster that's almost iPod-like in its clean lines. It has 1GB of on-board song storage - there's a Micro SD card slot for more - and a radio for when you tire of your own tunes. It'll play MPEG 4 video on its 2.1in, 240 x 320, 262,144-colour display too.
It's a 3G phone - the hard-to-see front-facing video call camera's in the top right of the picture - and has 3.6Mbps HSDPA download technology on board too. There's a two-megapixel camera on the back. It should come as no great surprise that the F330 is fitted out with Bluetooth and wireless stereo support.

The Samsung F480 seems to be a pretty popular handset and Samsung has decided to make hay while the sun shines by offering yet another version of the F480 known as La Fleur ("the flower" if you don't speak French). Apart from the external cosmetic changes, everything else within remains the same. If your girlfriend have been pestering you (or rather, dropping hints) for a new cell phone, what better way than to surprise her this Valentine's Day than with this lovey dovey Samsung F480 La Fleur? It will be out in Russia and several other European countries, with no word on pricing as at press time.

Will Samsung i8510 be a show off?

However that may be, i8510 is not just as fine-looking smartphone as some of its opponents, but most of those who will choose this gadget for their business needs will like its austere style. They won't be disappointed by Samsung's i8510 technical abilities either.

Samsung Instinct vs Apple iPhone comparison

HTC Touch, smartphone based on Windows Mobile, made a little step forward to the finger navigation, but it failed this task, not because the model is bad, but because the OS it uses is not very finger-friendly. Therefore, in usability part, the Apple smartphone does not have any competitors.
